Born in Barnsley,Yorkshire in 1894. He was baptised on 16/12/1894.

His parents were George Edward Wales

(09/10/1854-1942) and Grace Beatrice Thompson

(09/02/1868-1950). They were married in 1890.

George had a brother, James Edward

(21/06/1893-1950) and 4 sisters,

Vera Louisa Beatrice(30/12/1890-1970),

Iverna May(30/03/1892-22/04/1978),

Minnie Violet(29/10/1896-1976) and

Phyllis Mary(21/06/1899-15/02/1959).  

In the 1901 census,the family were recorded as living at 226 Sheffield Road Barnsley. George Snr was working as a photographer. 

In the 1911 census, it showed that the family were now living at 35 Wellgate,Rotherham,Yorkshire. George Snr was still employed as a photographer and George jnr was a clerk at a steel works.

He enlisted in Rotherham and his date of embarkation into France was on 13/04/1915.

He was killed in action on 26/03/1918.

He was awarded the 1914-1915 Star,the 1914-1918 British War and Allied Victory medals.

At the time of his death, the family were living at 8 Gilberthorpe Street,Rotherham,Yorkshire.

His mother was awarded a pension of 6/- 6d a week from 15/10/1918.
