Born at 4.20pm on 19/10/1882 at 11 Romilly Place, Edinburgh. His parents were William Richardson (04/12/1853-15/12/1886) and Janet(Jessie) Mckay(1849-15/08/1920). They were married on 07/03/1879.
John had no brothers or sisters and sadly his father was killed in an accident when he was only 4 years old.

Fatal Accident to an Edinburgh Shunter
Yesterday afternoon an accident which terminated fatally , happened to a man named William Richardson, residing at 51 Grove Street, Edinburgh. It appears that Richardson was engaged shunting waggons when he slipped off the buffers and the waggon passed over one of his legs. He was conveyed to Chalmers Hospital where it was found necessary to amputate the injured limb. A short while after the operation the unfortunate man died. Deceased who was 33 years of age was married and leaves a widow and one boy.
John and his mother moved to Perth and on 01/06/1888, Johns mother remarried to George Warren (1842-1911).
The 1901(Scottish) Census records John living with his mother ands step-father at 50 Atholl Street, Perth. John was employed as a dyers finisher, while his step-father George worked as a cutter.
On 03/03/1905 John married Elizabeth Wallace (born on 04/04/1884) and they went on to have 4 children, John Wallace (born on 25/05/1905), William (born on 10/07/1906), Duncan Wallace (born on 28/07/1911) and Winfred (born on 17/08/1915).
In the 1911(Scottish) Census, John and his family were recorded as living at 72 Watergate, Perth, John was still employed
as a dyers finisher.
John enlisted in Perth and was sent to France on 02/05/1915. He was killed in action on 13/11/1916.

The sad intelligence has been received by Mrs Richardson, Watergate, Perth of the death in action on 15th November of her husband, Private John Richardson of the Black Watch. Thirty -four years of age and a native of Perth. Private Richardson enlisted at the outbreak of war.
John was awarded the 1914-1915 Star, the 1914-1918 British War and Allied Victory medals.
His widow received a pension of 31/3 a week from 28/05/1917, awarded on 14/05/1917.
