Second Lieutenant George Alexander Low

2nd Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers

28th September 1918

​

Born on 21/11/1891 in Montrose,Forfar,Scotland.

His parents were William Thomas Low (born in 1858) and

Georgina Emily Bruce Gray(born in 1861).

He had 2 brothers,William T.(born in 1886) and John G.

(born in 1889). He also had a sister Louise(born in 1900).

In the 1891Scottish census, the family was recorded as living at No.10 Carnegie Street Montrose.His father was employed as a superintendent at the Singer Sewing Company.

In the 1901 Scottish census,the family had moved to Oak Place Little Dunkeld,Perthshire and Georges' father was now employed as a domestic gardener.

He enlisted into the Black Watch(Royal Highlanders) and had

2 regiment numbers,1762 & later 265396.He was promoted to

the rank of Lance Corporal.

His disembarkation into France was on 02/05/1916 and on 26/06/191,he was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the

Royal Scots Fusiliers.

He was killed in action on 28/09/1918. 

In his will read on 13/08/1919 he left his effects and £122 1s 1d (worth today £6.368.93) to his father.

At the time of his death the family were recorded as living at Oak Villa Birnam,Perth.
