Born in Singapore in 1885. His parents were Frederic Gerald Davidson(born in 1855) and Mary Wilhelmina Bols
(1861-15/02/1906). They married on 19/08/1880.
Robert had a brother, Gerald louis(1886-11/07/1916) and a sister Helen Winifred(1891-29/11/1977).
The family lived abroad and Roberts only appearance in the census records was in 1901, when he was boarding at Tunbridge School in Kent.
Robert was commissioned a temporary 2nd Lieutenant on 26/08/1915 and his date of disembarkation into France was on 23/03/1916. He was killed in action on 01/07/1916.
He was awarded the 1914-1918 British War and Allied Victory medals.
His brother Gerald,Temporary Lieutenant 6th Battalion Dorsetshire Regiment was awarded a Military Cross on 09/07/1916, "For conspicuous gallantry in action. He led an attack across the open in daylight to take a strongly fortified"stop". His attack was successful and enabled the whole trench to be seized and consolidated. He was twice wounded."
His wounds were of a serious nature and he died at No. 23 Casualty Clearing Station 48 hours later aged 30.
He is buried in Heilly Station Mericourt - L'Abbe, France. Reference I.E.12.
