Born in Exmouth, Devon in 1890.
His parents were Richard Barnes Holman(1854-1922) and Louisa Maria Carder(03/10/1853-1940). They were married in 1878.
Harry had 4 brothers; Richard(1879-1931),Frank(10/11/1882-1983),William(born in 1887) and Fred(24/02/1894-1966).
He also had 3 sisters; Elsie(born in 1885),
Edith Louise(born on 03/01/1887) and
Ellen(born on 16/08/1890).
In the 1891 census, the family were recorded as living at 53 Bicton Street,Exmouth,Devon. Richard Snr didn't appear on this census as being a mariner,he was most likely away at sea at this time.
The 1901 census saw the family still at the same address and Richard Snr still working as a sailor.
In the 1911 census,the family were recorded as having moved next door to 52 Bicton Street. Harry was now employed as a mason(bricklayer).
He enlisted in Tonypandy, Glamorgan and his date of disembarkation into France was on 24/08/1915.
He was killed in action on 01/07/1916.
He was awarded the 1914-1915 Star,
the 1914-1918 British War and Allied Victory medals.
