Born in Halifax, Yorkshire in 1892.

His parents were James Haigh(22/12/1860- 1909)and Priscilla Horsfield(1862-1920). They were married on 24/05/1884. 

He had 2 brothers; James(born in 1885) and Herbert(1900-1971). He also had 4 sisters; Maud

(born in 1889),Sarah-A(1890-1891),

Mary Elizabeth(Born in 1893) and Sarah Ellen

(born in 1898).

In the 1901 census, the family were recorded as living at 117 Springfield Lane, Royton, Lancashire. Johns father was employed as a railway carter.

In the 1911 census, the family had moved up the road to 121 Springfield Lane. John was now working in a cotton weaving factory as a little piecer in the mule room.

He enlisted in Rochdale and his date of disembarkation into France was on 01/10/1915.

He was killed in action on 01/07/1916.

He was awarded the 1914-1915 Star,the 1914-1918 British War and Allied Victory medals.
